Playing and Growing Together...
Ask many of our people how they came to Northampton, and you will find that the first thing they became involved with, outside of a Sunday morning Worship Service, was some sort of sports activity. People interacting through sporting events grants us the opportunity to reach out and get to know each other in a fun, open environment.When Jesus was on earth He didn't minister to people only in a "church" type environment. He met them where they were.
Our vision for Sports Ministries is two-fold. It was first created to provide men and women in our church to plug in to the activities within our church. Secondly, it exists to reach out into the community to the unchurched who might see the Christian faith in a new light. The overall idea is to combine Christian values with athletics to demonstrate to Christians and non-Christians alike that sports can be a fantastic conduit to the spirit of Christ, and that we can all share in sportsmanship and “Christ”manship.
At some point during every sporting event someone will share a devotional thought and/or prayer with the hope of planting a loving, relational seed.
